“Jerry,” the new track from London’s The Clientele is everything we love about the band: it’s somewhat hazy, a lot dreamy, and undeniably British. So you close your eyes, enjoying the lovely melody… until two and a half minutes in, you’re startled by a batshit guitar solo that’s as unexpected as it gets. Not a bad thing, just really surprising. Then the song goes back to its dreamy state – quite trippy. Anyway, we love the song – savage solo or not – and are counting down the days until their new mini-album Minotaur is released (August 31st).

The Clientele’s new album Bonfires on the Heath is currently streaming live on Merge Records site and its drippingly melodic/melancholic chock full of trills, delays, and hazy multi-track vocals but in a light poppy way… you know, if you’re into that. Timing IS everything, a fact that the folks at Merge are well aware of as this album oozes an autumnal vibe. Pre-order now for what’s sure to be the sound-track o’the season (wink).
