Converse is always trying to be hip on the musical front, which recently resulted in a Kid Cudi/ Best Coast/ Vampire Weekend collaboration “All Summer.” It just sort of sounded like Kid Cudi and Best Coast doing their own thing one after the other. This time around, Converse took more mesh-able artists from the UK, with a line-up of Hot Chip (Alexis and Joe), Hot City, and the legendary ex-Joy Division/New Order member Bernard Sumner. It’s a pretty groovy track but mostly just sounds like a Hot Chip song. What are your thoughts?

Shaki’s “She Wolf” apparently made an impression on Hot Chip. It is one of her better English language songs. Listen to Hot Chip howl it up on this cover. Now if they could only cop a few of her dance moves, that would be a video we’d like to see.

Sample One Life Stand, Hot Chip’s latest offering, in its entirety on their MySpace page. It’s vocal/synth heavy with a just about even split between ballads and dirty disco ditties featuring smatterings of steel drum and 90′s dance beats (Ministry of Sound ahem… cred where cred is due). The album’s title track has gay dance anthem written all over it what with its chorus: I only wanna be your one life stand/tell me do you stand by your man. This song was engineered for heavy rotation at Sugarland and Splash. My personal fave is “We Have Love” … cuz we totes do… in spades. Enjoy it below. One Night Stand drops February 9th. I have to say, the thought of someone else ripping him away from this world gives me more comfort than thinking he played Russian roulette with heroin.

Simply stated: the man shouldn’t be dead. I’m rendered physically/emotionally despondent by this news. Somebody punch me in the face; Jay would have… Try and cheer yourself up with the new Hot Chip “I Feel Better” (sniff).
