Anyways, enjoy this latest short film from the woman being lauded by Newsweek for single-handedly resurrecting the music video. In true swarthy underdog fashion, M.I.A. produces some of her best work when her back’s against the wall. A week after her album Maya was largely panned by critics, the rebel without a cause showcased her flair for eyebrow raising on Letterman last night when she performed “Born Free” along with several dopplegängers. It was a redeeming move after a series of missteps that have seemed to put her on track for a Kanye-like bout of over-exposure. Just don’t call it a comeback… yet.

VIDEO: The Fancy’s “Muscle Top” Webshow

The Fancy, a chamber pop group fronted by the peppy and pert Clara Latham and Seth Garrison, have started a very funny webshow with the help of 2009 Gotham Independent Film Award winner Ry Russo-Young called “Muscle Top.” It’s a “Flight of the Conchords”-esque romp following nascent NYC transplants Cyrus and Debbie on their quest to start a gay pop band. It’s quirk and kitsch and hits all the right notes. Check out “Episode Three” below and click here to watch the series from the beginning.
