Listen to Fever Ray‘s interpretation of the Anne Sexton-based Peter Gabriel song “Mercy Street.” Singer Karin Dreijer Andersson said of the track:
“We made it more intense and faster to fit our eccentric pecussionists and energetic live musicians. It is a monotone track but we worked with the dynamics trying to make it sparkle. I listened to it a lot when I was around 15, and it still moves me. It made me start reading Anne Sexton too.” [via]
The cover will be released as a limited 7″ on September 14th. Grab the mp3 below and compare it with the original. We can hear why Fever Ray might like the song, and she does an excellent job at rearranging the track to fit her trademark sound. There is a darker intensity in her cover that changes the dynamic to offer a fresh take on Gabriel’s version. Enjoy!
