Prokofiev Rare Works Performed Tonight At Carnegie Hall

Attention culture vultures: Prokofiev, the only very recently lauded Soviet composer (and mah fave), has been dead for 57 years, however, tonight at Carnegie Hall a few newly discovered works will be performed, chief amongst them Music for Athletic Exercise, a composition commissioned for a huge athletic pageant on the Red Square in Moscow in the summer of 1939 and the ballet Trapeze featuring two recently unearthed movements. Tickets are $15 – $25. Go get yourself some culture on the cheap, kiddies. Below sample some of his oeuvre with “Dance of the Knights” from his full length ballet Romeo & Juliet.
