Seeing a show at Pianos‘ upstairs room is like watching a band in your neighbor’s rec room – except more dimly lit, you know, due to the lack of track lighting. That being said, The Vanguard was able to surmount inherent sound/ambiance issues at their Tuesday night show and delivered a most entertaining 40 minute set. When asked how they were able to sound so good under such “lo-fi” circumstances drummer Luciano Rovner said “when your practice space is your living room… you learn how to make yourself sound good live.”
All and all, it was a great turn-out/love-in for the NYC-based band full of familiar faces and family. If you haven’t got plans for NYE yet, consider spending it with The Vanguard and the fine folks at The Broad Street Ballroom.
